How to find out 'natural' heel height

Women love to wear high heels, of course due to obvious reasons. The ubiquitous high heels can even boost your career growth. However it is not always comfortable to be in heels especially when the heel height is more. So, is there a magic formula to find out the heel height you would be most comfortable with and natural? Here we are discussing a method by which you can measure your ‘natural’ heel height.

Back ground

Depending on several factors including the shape of your foot, flexibility, arch height, length etc., your foot has a particular natural incline while in a state of rest. If this is measured, can indicate which heel height would feel most natural and comfortable for you. If you are wearing a pair of heels of ‘natural’ heel height, you would definitely be more comfortable because your feet are at their natural incline and not excessively strained.

There are two points on your foot which needs to be noted before starting the actual measurement.

1   Heel of your foot – This is where the high heel of the shoe supports

2   Ball of your foot  – This is where the foot bends when wearing heels

Measuring Process

1   Sit in a chair and extend your leg straight out in front you.
2   Relax your ankle and foot so that it rests at its natural incline.

It may be a good idea to do a few rounds of exercising for your ankle and foot (rolling the ankle, pointing the toes, etc.). This will make sure that your foot is not having any stiffness and will feel really relaxed when you sit for the measurement. If you do the measurement without doing any stretching for your feet, the measurement may show lower heel height because of the stiffness of the foot.

3   Use a measuring tape or ruler to measure the distance from the heel of your foot, straight to the point where your ball of foot bends.
The measurement on the tape indicates your foot’s ‘natural’ heel height.

This measuring process is easier with the help of a friend, roommate, or  any family member, because the measurement will be more accurate. You may choose to do this step without help as well, if you apply some creativity as the situation demands.
