High heels, especially leather heels can be quite expensive. So it’s always worth taking the extra effort to maintain them properly. Moreover leather can get damaged faster if not maintained properly. There are of course different ways to take care of high heels. However taking good care of leather high heels is different from maintaining other types of heels. 1 Always keep them clean
The most important step in maintaining your heels is to keep them clean. Though we all know this, most of us don’t put much effort to keep our shoes clean. Even if our shoes catch some dust or dirt we don’t care much, especially when they are not so visible. But this habit is the worst enemy of our high heels. You can use a soft brush to remove all the dust and dirt from them. Then clean them with a damp cloth. You can also use vinegar to clean leather shoes. 2 Polish them regularly
Polishing the leather high heels regularly is extremely important. You should polish them after every use. Even if you are not using a particular pair of leather heels regularly, you should polish them once every week. Polish retains natural oils in leather shoes and also covers stains and marks.
3 Use a leather conditioner suitable for the colour of the shoes
While using a conditioner for leather heels, make sure you choose the right colour for the shoes. The shoe polish available in the market has conditioners suitable for various colours of leather high heels. If you have large collection of heels of different colours, keep conditioners of different colours in stock so that you don’t apply wrong colour at any time.

4 Use a suitable shoe wax to give proper finish and shine
Then you can use some shoe wax to give your fabulous high heels a proper finish and shine. The shoe wax acts as a protective layer as well, for the high heels.
5 Store them in linen dustbags when not in use
If you are not using a particular pair of leather high heels for some time, make sure you keep them in linen dust bags or shoe bags instead of just throwing them around. This will prevent them from catching more dust. After keeping the shoes in dust bags line them properly and not let it lie on the sides.

6 Use small packets of silica gel inside shoes bag to absorb moisture
It is a good idea to keep small packets of silica gel inside the shoe bag to suck moisture. This is especially important in coastal regions where humidity in the air would be much higher than the interior locations. Leather catching moisture may create fungus growth on the surface and can cause eventual damage to the shoes.

7 Affix an extra rubber sole and heel cap if required
Some expensive leather high heels are entirely made of leather. If the undersole is also made of leather you may need to use them only in upscale surroundings or you may need to affix an extra rubber sole and heel cap to prevent damage when using in rough surfaces.

Walking properly is really important to maintain the leather heels in good condition even after we undertake all other steps mentioned here. Wrong way of walking can cause faster damage to the heels and it can even alter the shape of the shoes.

9 Do not walk in your fabulous high heels in rough surroundings
If you are going for a trekking, do not wear your fabulous leather high heels! This is an extreme case. But even in normal circumstances, avoid walking in your leather heels in rough surfaces. Walking in muddy pavements and rough roads etc. comes in this category. You may wear some other shoes which are meant for rough use in such situations and instead of your expensive leather high heels.
